On the shelf or on line, this trucks shovel appears to lock into position above the rig but it doesnt. It took me nearly 10 minutes to remove strapping anchored to this truck within the packaging. My son spent a minute playing with this truck only to move on to his other toys. Yeah, the shovel portion drags on the floor and will NOT lock into position above the rig. This truck can hardly be moved through the carpet much less in sand. I grew up with Tonka trucks and this was obviously designed by some young suit that was babysat by the television and playstation. If your looking for a durable fun truck for your child, move on as this truck wont get the smile your looking for.

I bought this for my three year old. While the truck is very sturdy and well -made, it takes a bit of muscle power and coordination to work the scoop. A little kid needs both hands and a a little help.
Also, the loader wont stay up without being held, so when kids try to push the truck, the loader keeps stopping it.
I think this will be a great toy when the kids are older.

My son got this truck for his 3rd birthday. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it’s been indesctructible. It’s gone down slides, been buried in sand and generally been abused. Because it doesn’t have a lot of fancy features it still works and is one of my sons favorite toys. Warning: may require imagination.

Santa Clause brought my two boys one of these each. My boys are ages 2 and 4. They already have the Tonka Toughest Mighty Dump truck and my 4 y/o asked Santa for the tractor to go with his dump truck. Three days after getting it, he left it in the drive way and I ran over it. It barely dented the metal scoop, hubby was able to straighten it out with a hammer. It didnt damage any of the plactic parts at all, apparently the metal scoop protected the rest of the tractor. My boys take these to the park and play in the sandbox. They love these tractors. The only change I would make would be to make the tires a bit tougher, I can forsee those wearing out before my boys do, LOL.

This is a great, high quality loader but way too big. I should have paid more attention to the dimensions. It dwarfs the tonka dump truck.

Boy, what a great investment this was! We bought this along with the front loader and wow, does it get used a lot! My little one just loves filling up that front loader and dumping stuff into the back of this dump truck. The dump truck then goes all over the place delivering whatever is in the back, and comes back for more. He goes through sand, mud, you name it and looks great. These trucks clean up very easily and don’t marr hardwood floors. It’s pretty cute seeing how many things he can do with this truck – it just provides hours of fun for him.

Believe it or not, this one is even better than the original Tonka Mighty Dump Truck. I had already bought my kids one of the classic Tonka Mighty Dump Trucks like I had as a boy. (The youngest was tearing around with it in the sand box, across the drive, everywhere, basically like I had.) I didn’t intend to buy this new bigger one, I was just going to buy the Road Grader and Quarry Truck Pack. By a stroke of fortune the store was giving that pack away with this new Toughest Mighty Truck for about the same price, so I figured, “Wow, free truck!” and plopped it in the cart. Turns out that it would have been well worth it regardless.
I had seen this newer monster sized version, but wasn’t sure what to make of it. This one is well thought out, and Tonka really did improve on the existing design. The larger, wider size makes it even better for little ones to push around as fast as their legs will go. It has fewer angled corners so wipeouts are less likely to draw blood/raise a lump than the older ones. The new handle at the top of the dump is great for dragging in and out of the sand box, storage box, etc. The open cab works better for some construction action figures (if you can find them.) Fits great in a 6′x6′ sandbox and would do well in a 4′x4′. On top of the functionality, in ways it looks more like the newer more massive real life loaders in service now.
The only potential negative is that it is so large that it is probably overwhelming in small sandboxes. This also means that even high lifting loader toys will have trouble dumping into the bed without a ramp or a bit of “air time.” Hasn’t slowed my little ones down yet, though.
Now, if Tonka would just bring back the old 3920 Mighty Loader…

We bought this for our 16 month old son’s Christmas present, after much deliberation. We bought this truck, instead of a softer, all plastic one for several reasons.
The metal(steel?) bed has rolled edges, and very few corners. It’s coated with some kind of enamel, so it should last awhile.
The rest of the truck is made of some kind of really heavy plastic; I can’t imagine a child being able to break it if they tried. The tippy part of the bed is suspended above the truck, to leave about an inch of space, making it almost impossible to pinch little fingers. It’s big enough for my almost three year old to sit in, and I can hardly wait for Christmas!

Just got this for my little guy – he’s ~28 months. Wish I’d bought it a long time ago! It’s big enough for little ones to run behind it and push, and sturdy enough to take being rammed into walls, doors, kitchen cabinets… Little dude just loves to load it up and push it around. Simple, classic, sturdy fun for little boys – probably little girls, too. My brother had big Tonkas when I was little and I remember playing with them myself. We would sit on them and ride down the street (we lived at the top of a hill) – this version looks just as study as the ones we had.
Look around, though!! You can find this offered with a hard hat and beach tools. Which I’d have gotten that one – my guy loves hats.

This truck deserves 5 stars for the durability alone! I bought this for my then 2 year old twin girls for Christmas because I remember playing with my brother’s Tonka trucks and how much fun they were. There are so many uses which gives a child unlimited imagination for it. The girls especially love to play in their sandbox with it and put the rocks that are on the natural hill of our backyard and transport them to the “rock quarry” -really a rock garden. And may I also add it has been kept outside in the backyard, yes, outside in the rain and everything 24/7 for the last 4 mo. now, and it still looks brand new! Great investment!
