It is madeof plastic, not metal like I remember Tonka being made of and the piece on the front that should raise and lower is nearly impossible for me, as an adult, to raise and lower, so there is no way my baby can. The scoop of this is made of steel so it holds up well. My kids, age 1, my husband, nieces/nephews have played with it and it is worth the money. Sadly, I was mistaken. My three year old daughter and I managed to break this the first day we played with it. We were in the house, on the carpet, trying to get the blade to move as advertised on the item's box and in the description. <br /> <br />I am now skeptical of the "Real Rugged" line from Tonka, but am still impressed with their larger trucks and construction vehicles.
