I got one of these for my young nephew last year. When I asked him what he wanted for Christmas this year, he mentioned the truck and wants another toy from this series. I was amazed to find he was still playing with it. In an age where everything takes batteries and kids seem to have a shorter attention span than ever, it was great to see that there are things which still get them excited. I would recommend this for anybody looking for a holiday or birthday gift. Great quality and it will last a long time. I think it will probably last his little newborn brother, when he is old enough to appreciate it.

I became nostalgic for the metal Tonka dump truck from my youth and found myself at Amazon.com to find it for my own son. I thought it seemed a bit pricey ($54 was the list price), so I went to my local Toys-R-Us and got it for $23. Even there, that is ten dollars more than the Hasbro website’s suggested retail price of $14.99. Shop around!!!
The Tonka Classics Dump Truck seems smaller than I remember from childhood. Despite its possibly smaller size, it is pretty solid, being made from steel and hard plastic, and should hold up to the antics of my little guy; provided we don’t leave it out in the rain and snow.
